Recall to prison

In the event of a person serving a life licence being recalled to prison, the Parole Board must consider whether it is necessary for the protection of the public that the person should continue to be confined.

The latest data shows that in 2023/24 the Parole Board considered 82 cases where the person had allegedly breached the conditions of their life licence or whose behaviour was giving cause for concern. Of these, 40 people were recalled to custody.

Of the 5 OLR prisoners who were considered for recall, 2 were recalled to custody and 2 were issued warning letters.

More information is available within the Scottish Parole Board Annual Report 2023-24.

More information about OLRs can be found on the Risk Management Authority website.
