An alcohol treatment requirement may be considered where the individual’s alcohol use contributes to their offending behaviour. Addressing an individual’s alcohol use can therefore help address offending behaviour as well as wider personal and social risks and needs. Such a requirement will only be imposed in addition to an offender supervision requirement. We have two Specified Workers who are based in the Community Justice Team and liaise closely with the Integrated-Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Team (I-DART). The Specified Workers provide an assessment at the Court report stage and thereafter work on the specific drug or alcohol issues with the person if they are given such a requirement. Interventions may include; harm reduction, SMART recovery, relapse prevention, enhancing daily structure & routine and signposting to other services.
