Interventions suitable for

Women in or on the periphery of the Criminal Justice system

Programme Title and Provider

SHINE

Details of all Specific national or local scheme/intervention(s) available

Shine is a women’s mentoring service for women in or on the periphery of the Criminal Justice system. Support is provided to women in all manners of life, with an emphasis on resettlement and independent living within communities.

Possible Outcomes

  • Community safety and public protection
  • Reduced offending
  • Social inclusion to support desistance from offending

Process for Assessment and/or inclusion in scheme/intervention

Available to women aged 16+ who are

  • Remanded in custody
  • Serving sentences of four years or less
  • Subject of a Community Payback Order and at risk of breach – with this criteria in other local authority areas rather than the women being referred back to the courts for a breach they would be linked to Shine for some work. The Shine Mentors’ role would be to get the women to re-engage with Criminal Justice Social Work.
  • Includes Schedule 1 offenders.

Interventions suitable for

Individuals who have served in the UK’s military services and have committed offences

Programme Title and Provider

Veterans’ Mentoring Service (VMS)

Details of all Specific national or local scheme/intervention(s) available

The Veteran’s Mentoring Service is available to those who have a minimum of one day’s service in the military and are in or on the periphery of the Criminal Justice system.

Possible Outcomes

  • Community safety and public protection
  • Reduced offending
  • Social inclusion to support desistance from offending

Process for Assessment and/or inclusion in scheme/intervention

  • Available to veterans of all armed forces
  • Involved in or on the periphery of offending behaviour
  • In or out of custody
  • All Mentors will have lived military experienced (this could be either self/spouse, etc.)
  • Includes Schedule 1 offenders
