S.76 Guilty plea
An accused person charged with a serious offence may give notice in writing that they intend to plead guilty to an indictment under section 76 of the Criminal Procedure (Scotland) Act 1995. A special hearing will be fixed to record the plea and the judge will then consider the sentence. The accused does not need to wait until a preliminary hearing/first diet to do this.
