An Unpaid Work scheme is available to all offenders aged 16 and over. Individual placements may be available i.e. local Community Projects and local Charity Shops.

Possible Outcomes

Participation can lead to an increase in the individual’s skills base, levels of self-esteem and ultimately lead to increased employment opportunities. The ‘Other Activities’ element of the Requirement allows for individuals to address/receive support with other areas of need such as literacy/numeracy.

Process for Assessment and/or inclusion in scheme/intervention

For an Unpaid Work Requirement of over 100 hours, offenders will have been subject of a referral from Court to Criminal Justice for a Criminal Justice Social Work Report. For an Unpaid Work Requirement of less than 100 hours, the offender may or may not have been the subject of such a Report. In addition, individuals may be made subject to a Fiscal Work Order, of up to 40 hours. The Fiscal Work Order is made directly from the Procurator Fiscal’s service without a formal assessment by CJSW, if the individual is in agreement with the Fiscal Work Order.
