Aim/Purpose:

To provide residential rehabilitation treatment for people who want to achieve a substance-free recovery. LEAP is a treatment and rehabilitation programme for those dependent on alcohol and other drugs (including opiates, stimulants, cannabis, tranquillisers etc.) and usually lasts 3 months or longer. It is suitable for those who want to achieve a substance-free recovery. This is a quasi residential rehabilitation unit, so the patient group live together in our two housing units, travelling to the rehab unit six out of seven days. The programme timetable is intensive with scheduled activities 7 days per week, including evenings. The programme is part of the services provided by the Addiction Treatment & Recovery Care Directorate and is delivered in partnership with the City of Edinburgh Council, the Cyrenians, Encompass and Alcohol and Drug Partnerships.

Suitability criteria:

  • All genders
  • Middle-aged adult (36-55), Older adult (56 and older), Young adult (18-35)

Exclusions:

Unstable or chaotic substance misuse and inability to engage with assessment appointments. Referral criteria regarding substitute prescribing levels stated below.

Assessment/referral process:

  • Any agency, Court, GP, Health professional, Social work, Other

Referrals are accepted from Edinburgh and Mid/East/West Lothian, including from primary care and across statutory and non-statutory services (addiction services, housing, prisons, mental health, hospital settings and social work services). Referral criteria are as follows: Alcohol use disorders Drug use disorders (see prescription medication dose limits below) Methadone 60mls or less ( 50mls on admission) Suboxone/Subutex 20mg or less Espranor 18mg or less Buvidal weekly preparation 24mg or less Buvidal monthly preparation 96mg or less Diazepam 20mg or less
