218, Turning Point Scotland

Details Of All Specific National Or Local Scheme/Intervention(S) Available

Provides an alternative to custody for women aged 18 and over who have live criminal justice involvement in the last 12 months. It comprises a 12-place residential service. The service includes therapeutic staff and Mental health and general nurses, in-house psychologist, and visiting specialist medical care. There is an evidence based, intensive group work programme, and stabilisation and detoxification are also available where assessed appropriate.

Possible Outcomes

Improved outcomes in all areas of health and wellbeing and personal safety are expected, leading to reduced offending and substance use and improved housing, family relationships, housing and welfare outcomes. Aftercare is also part of the programme to support sustained outcomes.

Process for Assessment and/or inclusion in scheme/intervention

Referrals can be made by Sheriffs, CJSW, Drug court, Addictions SW, Diversion any other relevant agency, self referral and there is a court assessment team in Glasgow Sheriff Court. This option can be considered as part of bail conditions.

Community Justice First
Glasgow Council on Alcohol

Details of all Specific national or local scheme/intervention(s) available

A group work programme suitable for those currently on probation, on CPO or supervised as part of through care services. It covers a range of issues and is designed to enable participants to make positive lifestyle changes.

Possible Outcomes

Promote life skills, facilitate change, reduce alcohol use and increase alcohol knowledge, improve problem-solving skills and set life goals.

Process for Assessment and/or inclusion in scheme/intervention

Referral by CJSW for those on probation, CPO or supervision, and the service assess.

Interventions suitable for

Men with prison sentences under 4 years

Programme title and provider

New Routes, PSP with the Wise Group being the Lead provider

Details of all Specific national or local scheme/intervention(s) available

Available to men sentenced to less than 4 years in prison, New Routes works with men before they are released from prison, and for a number of weeks after to help prisoners acquire the life, social and employment skills they need to re-join society. The project employs Life Coaches, many of whom themselves have a background of offending or recovery from addiction, who then use their own experience in turning their life around to help others.

Possible Outcomes

Improved accommodation, welfare, employability, family relationship and overall wellbeing outcomes, reduced reoffending.

Process for Assessment and/or inclusion in scheme/intervention

Referral via Scottish Prison Service or link centre in prisons.

Interventions suitable for

All women serving a short sentence, on remand or CPO

Programme title and provider

SHINE, PSP with the SACRO (community justice organisation) being the Lead provider

Details of all Specific national or local scheme/intervention(s) available

The service is available to all adult females who are: currently serving a custodial sentence in Scotland of less than four years and not subject to a statutory order, on remand or subject to a Community Payback Order.

Possible Outcomes

Improved accommodation, welfare, employability, positive use of time, community reintegration, reduced risk of breaching Community Payback Order, family relationship and overall wellbeing outcomes, reduced reoffending.

Process for Assessment and/or inclusion in scheme/intervention

Referrals can be self referral, from prison staff, via SHINE staff in prison and community referrals from Social Work Scotland.
