The purpose of imposing a mental health treatment requirement is to ensure that an individual who has been diagnosed with a mental health condition and/or learning disability which contributes to the individual’s offending receives support, care and treatment to enable them to improve their mental health in terms of their mental health needs.

Justice Social Work and Alcohol and Drug Recovery Services (ADRS) jointly fund a Senior Addiction Nurse, who will attend the JSW office two days a week. The Senior Addiction nurse is also a qualified mental health practitioner who will also meet with her clients who are involved in the Criminal Justice system

Possible Outcomes

This serves to aid compliance with the Order and promote the welfare of the client, whilst addressing their Mental Health and wellbeing issues.

Process for Assessment and/or inclusion in scheme/intervention

Referral from GP to Mental Health Technician for assessment.  If acute symptoms are displayed contact made by CJSW to both clients GP and duty worker at Mental Health service to have assessment undertaken.
