Last updated: 25th July 2024

Description:

Where the order contains a mental health treatment requirement an individual must submit to treatment by or under the direction of a registered medical practitioner or a registered psychologist (or both) with a view to improving the offender’s mental condition.

Further Information:

The purpose of imposing a mental health treatment requirement is to ensure that an individual who has been diagnosed with a mental health condition and/or learning disability which contributes to the individual’s offending receives support, care and treatment to enable them to improve their mental health in terms of their mental health needs. Justice Social Work and Alcohol and Drug Recovery Services (ADRS) jointly fund a Senior Addiction Nurse, who will attend the JSW office two days a week. The Senior Addiction Nurse is also a qualified mental health practitioner who will also meet with her clients who are involved in the Criminal Justice system.
