Aim/Purpose:

EACHA (East Ayrshire Churches Homelessness Action) is a peer-led recovery and community support charity based in Kilmarnock, East Ayrshire. Operating from our One Stop Shop at 9–19 John Dickie Street, we provide trauma-informed, person-centred support for individuals experiencing homelessness, addiction, poverty, mental health challenges, and social isolation. Our approach is rooted in the Recovery Capital Framework and Prochaska & DiClemente’s Stages of Change model. We meet people where they are — whether they are in crisis, contemplating change, or actively rebuilding their lives. Services include: Community Friends Drop-In (food provision and safe space) One-to-one recovery and crisis support Peer mentoring Advocacy and practical support Group work and personal development programmes Employability and volunteering pathways Support with housing, benefits, and financial inclusion Family and community reconnection We work collaboratively with statutory and third-sector partners while maintaining a strong lived-experience ethos. Our aim is to reduce harm, increase resilience, strengthen recovery capital, and create sustainable pathways out of homelessness, addiction and exclusion. EACHA exists to provide hope, connection, and practical change within the East Ayrshire community.

Suitability criteria:

  • All genders
  • Middle-aged adult (36-55), Older adult (56 and older), Young adult (18-35)

Exclusions:

EACHA is not a clinical service and does not provide medical treatment, detoxification, or emergency mental health interventions. Individuals presenting with immediate risk to themselves or others may be supported to access appropriate emergency or statutory services. We operate within safeguarding guidelines and reserve the right to manage access where behaviour compromises the safety and wellbeing of others.

Assessment/referral process:

Individuals can self-refer by attending the One Stop Shop during opening hours or contacting us directly by phone or email. Referrals are also accepted from statutory and third-sector agencies. Following initial contact, a member of staff will arrange an informal conversation to identify immediate needs, strengths, and goals. There is no formal waiting list for drop-in services. Access to structured programmes is agreed collaboratively based on readiness and capacity.
