Those sentenced to a Community Payback Order with an Alcohol requirement.

TCA Counselling – Court referral scheme: this pathway was developed in partnership with the Sheriffs and Court Social Worker. This pathway enables the sheriffs to request a report from TCA about the client in relation to substance use. The pathway is: TCA have allocated appointments for the courts: these are given to the court social worker prior to a court appearance. The social worker will give them to the client in the court room as requested by the Sheriff.

This scheme is active in Dundee but can also be accessed in Perth & Kinross and Angus.

Possible Outcomes

The client will be assessed in relation to the nature of substance use/alcohol, associated factors and plans for lifestyle change. This involves a range of psychosocial, motivational enhancement and cognitive behavioural techniques.

Process for Assessment and/or inclusion in scheme/intervention

A report is produced for the next court appearance (the clients will have received 4 appointments). The report consists of

• Attendance record
• Drinking history and current alcohol use
• Relationship between Alcohol Misuse and Offending
• Recommendations and conclusions
