Interventions suitable for

Males and females aged 16 or over who have a serious drug problem which is linked to their offending.

Details of all Specific national or local scheme/intervention(s) available

Treatment and support provided by social worker, addiction nurse and addiction worker including substitute prescribing, detox, psychosocial interventions to support behaviour change, harm reduction advice, BBV testing, and support with any immediate needs i.e. benefits, housing and health. The individual may be linked to third sector support providers such as Building Futures. Males and females aged 16 or over who have a serious drug problem which is linked to their offending.

Possible Outcomes

Substance use is reduced or stopped, and drug related offending decreased. Improved ability to manage high risk-situations, ability to identify triggers and develop coping strategies. Improved physical and emotional health.

Process for Assessment and/or inclusion in scheme/intervention

Drug Treatment and Testing Order assessment may be initiated by court or Criminal Justice Social Work report writer. The individual requires to be assessed by Drug Treatment and Testing Order social worker and nurse/addiction worker from Addiction Recovery Team.

Drug Treatment and Testing Order available for any young people over aged 16 years who meet the assessed criteria.

Possible Outcomes

The young person will be given every opportunity to address their use of drugs which should then assist in the reduction of offending and assisting the young person to gain a more stable lifestyle.

Process for Assessment and/or inclusion in scheme/intervention

The Court of the Social Worker, through the Criminal Justice Social Work Report cab referral a young person to the Drug Treatment and Testing Order service. The service could then consider suitability for further assessment and recommend to the Court a deferment for 4 weeks for screening and more evidence. This could include an assessment by a health professional.
