Programme Title and Provider

UP2U: Creating Healthy Relationships

UP2U is a domestic abuse intervention programme which is delivered to individuals who are subject to a Community Payback Order or Licence as a result of a domestic abuse offence. This is an assessment led intervention and UP2U treatment plans are devised in relation to the individual’s risk and need, therefore completion of the programme will vary from 6 sessions to 40 sessions. A voluntary partner support service will also be offered to any partner and/or ex-partner of the individual undertaking the UP2U programme.

Possible Outcomes

UP2U is a behaviour change programme that aims to break the cycle of an individuals need to use abusive behaviours in their relationships, in particular their intimate relationships. Programme methods support the individual to manage emotions using positive self-talk and mindfulness techniques to interrupt negative coping strategies. UP2U participants will be supported to take responsibility for their behaviours and increase victim empathy and understanding of the impact of domestic abuse on others. The desired outcome is to support the individual to develop healthier relationship behaviours and to work with partner agencies to
maximise safety and wellbeing of the individual’s partner’s and/or children during the behaviour change period.

Process for Assessment and/or inclusion in scheme/intervention

The supervising social worker will complete Module 1 – Assessment and Engagement, which is a 4-session module completed within the first 3 months of the order/licence being imposed. The aim of this module is to work with any resistance shown to try and shift attitudinal views so that the individual is more accepting of their unhealthy relationship behaviours and their willingness to engage, and change is increased. If this is achieved, then this would deem the individual suitable to continue onto Module 2 of the programme. The programme can be delivered on a 1:1, 2:1 or groupwork basis.

Young people can be required to attend a number of programmes as part of their Community Payback Order including the Road Traffic Offenders Group, Better Lives programme and Moving Forward Making Changes programme as well programmes delivered by intensive services.

Possible Outcomes

The young person will address their specific offending behaviour in a group work setting. Assisting them to consider the consequences of their behaviour and in turn hopefully reducing their likelihood of recidivism.

Through the Criminal Justice Social Work Report and assessment by the group facilitators.
