Living Wild supports individuals on Community Payback (and other criminal justice orders*) who want to make positive and sustained changes that can lead to a move away from offending. After an assessment period we offer regular community-based outreach support wrapped around a 10-day Wilderness Journey usually in the highlands of Scotland. Through intensive learning and personal development individuals will consolidate their new skills, boost confidence, motivation and aspirations. This will allow individuals to tackle complex circumstances and patterns of behaviour and tackle re-offending and help with rehabilitation.

Possible Outcomes

Addressing long term unemployment, recovery from addiction, homelessness, isolation, involvement in the criminal justice system in Scotland, and a history of trauma or harm.

Process for Assessment and/or inclusion in scheme/intervention

Assessed at point of CJSWR/ once on CPO- Supervision. Attendance at Venture Trust cab be as part of the case management plan or added to the CPO as a programme requirement

Interventions suitable for

Men over the age of 18 years on a community justice order.

STRIDE (Midlothian Justice Service Men’s Group)

Stride is available for men who could benefit from support with their mental health, substance use and experience of past or current trauma and/or abuse.
A Six-session Emotional Resources Group course has been developed by the NHS with evidence that it has positive effects on emotional regulation, wellbeing and self-efficacy. This phase may also be suitable for men subject to Structure Deferred Sentences.
‘Survive and Thrive’ is a 10-week, psycho-educational intervention course for people who have experienced trauma, focusing on their safety and supporting efforts to create stability. The general purpose of the group is to help participants develop a better understanding of trauma and common reactions to trauma as well as to learn and practice coping strategies for dealing with some of the impacts of traumatic experiences.

Stride is for men who are on a Justice order in the community, specifically a Community Payback Order.
