We have recently commissioned training for both Criminal Justice Social Workers and Children’s Services Social Workers and the first cohort of staff will be trained and ready to start assessing suitability for the Programme November 2019. Currently delivered on an individual basis; however, it is our intention to also include group-work when coronavirus restrictions allow us to do so.

Possible Outcomes

1. For individuals to have a better understanding of the reasons behind their offending.
2. To offer support on any root causes, adopting a public health model.
3. To reduce domestic abuse and support healthy relationships.
4. To reduce the impact of domestic abuse on victims and any children.

Process for Assessment and/or inclusion in scheme/intervention

A comprehensive assessment of people’s suitability is undertaken during the preparation of the Criminal Justice Social Work Report where elements of the programme can be included as part of a Supervision Requirement.
Where a Programme Requirement is being considered; a comprehensive and specialist assessment of people’s suitability is a prerequisite and a six week period of deferment is required to complete this assessment.

Where no specific scheme/intervention is available, is there capacity to provide a bespoke service based on judicial request?

A person-centred plan will be developed for each individual. This programme can range from six to forty sessions (with the option of extended sessions), dependent on the risks and needs identified as part of the assessment. Therefore, elements of the programme can be included as part of a Supervision Requirement.
