A Structured Deferred Sentence aims to provide a structured intervention for individuals upon conviction and prior to final sentencing.
In East Renfrewshire SDS is low to medium tariff, aimed at:

  • Young people aged 16-26
  • Woman offenders
  • People who are motivated to engage with a short structured intervention

Possible Outcomes

Prevent individuals being further drawn into the justice system.
Meeting assessed criminogenic and non-criminogenic needs and building an individual’s motivation and capacity for positive change; reducing the frequency or seriousness of offending behaviour; and avoiding premature or unnecessarily intensive periods of supervision in the community.

Process for Assessment and/or inclusion in scheme/intervention

  • Assessment of suitability will take place at Criminal Justice Social Work
  • Reports writing
