CJS Submission to the Independent Sentencing and Penal Policy Commission
INSIGHT | 1st June 2025
In June, Community Justice Scotland (CJS) submitted a response to the Independent Sentencing and Penal Policy Commission’s call for evidence as part of its enquiry into potential changes to improve Scotland’s approach to sentencing and penal policy.
In it CJS called for a fundamental re-focusing of our justice system on preventative and person centred approaches to justice and for a definitive shift towards using community first responses to offending behaviour.
You can read our submission here, including a supplementary report from our Expert Advisory Group on international approaches to addressing prison population crises.
