Technology Mediating Offending E-Learning Module – Online Thrive

30th January 2026 - 29th January 2027

Part 1:

Technology mediated offending in Scotland is a growing concern, with cyber-crime forming a significant proportion of certain crime types, particularly sexual crimes and crimes of dishonesty.

Research indicates that the internet and cyber technologies have significantly impacted the scale and nature of sexual crime in Scotland.  The rise in cyber-enabled “other sexual crimes” is estimated to have contributed to roughly half of the growth in all police-recorded sexual crimes over the past ten years.

It is estimated that the internet was used as a means to commit at least 20% of all sexual crimes recorded by the police.

This eLearning course is ideal for practitioners looking to improve their knowledge, understanding and effectiveness in managing and supporting adults who have committed technology mediated offences.

Part 2:

The early teenage years are a time of significant physical, emotional and developmental change for most children. They are also a time when adolescents are starting to understand their own individual sexuality. It can be a period when sexual drives may be acute, but some young people may struggle to understand their own and others’ sexuality and relational and sexual boundaries.

Much of the research in the UK and in other jurisdictions suggests that at least around one third of all harmful sexual behaviour (HSB) towards children and young people is committed by children and young people (Expert Group, 2020). Therefore, training in this area of work is imperative.

This eLearning course is ideal for practitioners looking to improve their knowledge, understanding and effectiveness in supporting children and young people who display technology assisted harmful sexual behaviour (TA-HSB).

We recommend that you complete both part 1 and part 2.
