Where the order contains a drug treatment requirement an individual must submit to treatment by or under the direction of a specified person with a view to reducing or eliminating the offender’s dependency on, or propensity to misuse, drugs.

A drug treatment requirement might be imposed when drug misuse has been identified, or where a persons drug use contributes to their offending behaviour. Such a requirement will only be imposed in addition to an offender supervision requirement. We have two Specified Workers who are based in the Community Justice Team and liaise closely with the Integrated-Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Team (I-DART). The Specified Workers provide an assessment at the Court report stage and thereafter work on the specific drug or alcohol issues with the person if they are given such a requirement. Interventions may include; harm reduction, SMART recovery, relapse prevention, enhancing daily structure & routine and signposting to other services.
