Unpaid work is suitable for all service users deemed fit to work. It serves as reparation in paying back to the community, aids rehabilitation, reintegration and challenges recidivism.  A variety of work is undertaken while supervised within the local community, lighter duties are available for those with additional needs or disabilities. Personal placements may be offered to suitable low risk service users who would benefit from charity type placement opportunities which may lead them to volunteering or employment at a later time.

Other activities are also available for a maximum of 30 hours which can be used towards total hours of unpaid work. Employability mentors are available to support service users into training, volunteering and employment (other activity).

Possible Outcomes

Gives service users the opportunity to learn new skills, aid employability and reduce criminality. Provides structure and support to service users while serving the local community by undertaking work such as landscaping, litter picking, food bank support.

Process for Assessment and/or inclusion in scheme/intervention

Assessed at CJSWR interview by social worker. Level 1 orders can be given without assessment for up to 100 hours. A further risk assessment and suitability assessment is then undertaken by Unpaid Work officer prior to Order commencing.
