Where the order contains a mental health treatment requirement an individual must submit to treatment by or under the direction of a registered medical practitioner or a registered psychologist (or both) with a view to improving the offender’s mental condition.

Referrals would be made to NHS partners at psychological therapies, psychiatric services and community mental health teams as appropriate. Individuals who are assessed as presenting a serious risk of causing harm and may suffer from a Personality Disorder can be referred to the Serious Offender Liaison Service at the Royal Edinburgh Hospital.
