In accordance with Caledonian Programme Manual a full assessment is carried out at Criminal Justice Social Work Report stage. Pre-programme and Case Management carried out by appropriately trained Social Worker within the Justice Team. Groupwork component is carried out by Partnership Delivery Team.

Possible Outcomes

The Caledonian System is an integrated approach to address men’s domestic abuse and to improve the lives of women, children and men. It does this by working with men convicted of domestic abuse related offences on a programme to reduce their re-offending while offering integrated services to women and children. The Caledonian model takes the form of an intervention system comprising: the men’s programme, women’s service and children’s service. The men’s programme uses a person-centred approach coupled with cognitive behavioural techniques in order to encourage men to recognise their abuse and take responsibility for themselves and their relationship with the ex/partners and children. It is aimed at adult men, defined as over 16 years, whose abuse has been to a female partner or ex-partner. Men can be referred by the Court to this two year programme if they have been convicted of offences involving domestic abuse. The programme is statutory and men are required to attend.

Possible Outcomes

MFMC – The Moving Forward: Making Changes Programme has been designed by the Scottish Prison Service and The Community Justice Operational Practice Unit of the Scottish Government, in order to deliver best practice in Sex Offender treatment in Scotland. The programme is based on recent advances in research and practice, and from experiential learning gained from delivering programmes throughout the prison and justice social work environments. At present, people who are made subject to a custodial sentence are no longer able to participate in MFMC in custody. This now has an impact on individuals not being able to start the intervention whilst in custody and continue with same programme on their release to the community.
It is based upon the dynamic risk factors identified through the Stable 2007 risk assessment and matches levels of intervention to levels of risk and need and assists participants to lead a satisfying life that does not involve harming others.
Moving Forward: Making Changes is targeted at men aged 18 upward and it is anticipated that a period of up to 3 years will be required to fully complete the programme.
The individual will complete a schedule of individual pre-group work with their case manager, followed by a period of assignment based group-work with other individuals, delivered by accredited facilitators. This is then followed by a further period of supplementary/maintenance work with the case manager.
