Both accredited and non-accredited programmes are offered across the region. Accredited programmes include MFMC and Caledonian for those who meet the specific criteria.

As stated both accredited and non-accredited programmes are offered. Accredited programmes include Moving Forward Making Changes and Caledonian for those who meet the specific criteria. The Caledonian System is an integrated approach to address men’s domestic abuse, improving the lives of the men but also women and children who have been effected. It does this by working with men convicted of domestic abuse related offences to reduce their re-offending while offering integrated services to women and children. The Caledonian model takes the form of an intervention system comprising: the men’s programme, women’s service and children’s service. The men’s programme uses a person-centred approach coupled with cognitive behavioural techniques to encourage men to recognise their abuse and take responsibility for it within their relationship with the ex/partners and children. It is aimed at adult men, over 16 years, whose abuse has been to a female partner or ex-partner. Men can be referred by the Court to this two-year programme if they have been convicted of offences involving domestic abuse. The programme is statutory and men are required to attend.
There needs to be a programme requirement following appropriate assessment to access programmes. Non-accredited programmes include: an updated version of Constructs either as a programme requirement or not, targeting male offenders. Women’s Group (GROW) with or without a programme requirement depending on whether this is helpful. The Women’s Programme is currently only available in the East of the region but is also being developed in the West.

Possible Outcomes

Order completed and risk of reoffending reduced. Participants reflect on their behaviour and develop an understanding of why they have offended. Individuals learn new skills which will help them to change their behaviour and move on to an offence free future successfully.

Process for Assessment and/or inclusion in scheme/intervention

Offence specific assessment tools used to consider suitability for particular programmes – Stable & Acute for Moving Forward making Changes; SARA for Caledonian Programme; (Level of Service Case Management Inventory) LSCMI for Constructs and Women’s Programme. When Caledonian or MFMC is being considered programme specific assessment reports are produced on request from the court to enable assessment for suitability to be undertaken. Programme Requirement MUST be imposed for Caledonian or MFMC; the requirement is optional and proposed on a case by case basis for Constructs and GRoW.
