Delivered in house as the uptake for the previous third sector provision was extremely low. Respond to the needs of the court as required. Priority is given to vulnerable groups such as those with mental health problems, women accused, single parents, people with carer responsibilities, people with substance misuse issues and young people aged between 16 and 21. Other individuals who would suffer extreme difficulties if remanded to custody, are assessed as not being a risk to public protection or are assessed as not being at risk of self-harm are also targeted. Dumfries and Galloway Criminal Justice, work with community justice partners and third sector providers, to improve access to appropriate support services related to bail supervision.
Compliance with bail conditions. Engagement with Criminal Justice and other agencies.
Process for Assessment and/or inclusion in scheme/intervention
An assessment of need and risk identify those that, with the support of Bail Supervision can be safely released on bail. Dumfries and Galloway Criminal Justice Social Work apply professional judgement on where bail supervision would improve outcomes. We take account of the needs and impact on the individual and others, including children and family members, while ensuring risk and safety implications are fully assessed. The Bail Supervision Assessment Report should contain an action plan for supervision this should directly correlate to the contributing factors associated with the individual’s risk.
The action plan should detail:
- Level of contact to be maintained at each phase in the bail supervision
- The frequency of reviews
- The role of individual subject to supervision, the supervising officer and any other third party
