An Enhanced Bail Supervision Order can be imposed as an alternative to being placed on remand and requires an individual to attend twice weekly office and home visits. Failure to comply with the conditions of the Enhanced Bail Supervision Order will result in the police being automatically notified and appropriate action being taken.
Bail supervision combines the provision of verified information to the Court with a package of supervision, and access appropriate support services, including accommodation, aimed at providing the opportunity for bail to an individual who would otherwise have been remanded in custody. Individuals will have the opportunity to engage in community-based welfare support services offering an earlier intervention to improve desistance from further offending.
Process for Assessment and/or inclusion in scheme/intervention
The individual is assessed by a Justice Social Work Assistant on the morning when they are due to appear in Court from custody. The expectations of the order are fully explained during the assessment to ensure awareness of the Court’s expectations. Progress will be reviewed on an on-going basis and a written update will be provided to Court for every appearance. A personal support plan is devised following completion of a risk/needs matrix to ensure all key areas underlying offending are identified and can be addressed.
