Willow

Willow provides a wide range of interventions, supports and opportunities to women in the justice system, aged 18+. These take account of the prevalence and impact of complex trauma in the population and include a strong mental health emphasis to support women’s recovery, improve self-efficacy and support a move away from offending. Women can attend as part of a Community Payback Order, licence or on a voluntary basis. Women participate in a range of 1-1 work, groups and courses provided by our team of social work, nursing, psychology and support work staff.

Possible Outcomes

Improved mental health, reduced trauma symptoms, increased social support and community participation, desistance.

Process for Assessment and/or inclusion in scheme/intervention

Referral: Women may self-refer or be linked into Willow by justice social work services, court, mental health and other professionals including Diversion from prosecution and Bail supervision. Assessment routinely takes place as part of a justice social work report for inclusion on a Community Payback Order, and/or during a custodial sentence for voluntary or statutory throughcare. Women who have had contact with the justice system in the last 12 months may also access Willow for support voluntarily.

Men in the justice system, aged 18+

Programme title and provider

Crossroads

Crossroads is a new service for men in contact with the justice system aged 18 or over. It provides individual and group interventions, that aim to reduce the risks associated with offending behaviour. These include targeting the problems associated with experiences of trauma, including mental health problems, difficulties coping, managing emotions, negative view of self and relationship difficulties. The service works with partner agencies to include the expertise of health and other professionals. Men can attend as part of a Community Payback Order, Licence supervision or on a voluntary basis.

Possible Outcomes

Improved mental health, reduced trauma symptoms, increased social support and community participation, desistance.

Process for Assessment and/or inclusion in scheme/intervention

Referrals are from justice social work services. Referral routinely takes place as part of a justice social work report for inclusion on a Community Payback Order.
Referrals can be made by case managers for men on licence supervision.
 

Interventions suitable for

Men who commit sexual offences or offences with a sexual element.

Moving Forward Making Changes

Moving Forward, Making Changes: behavioural programme designed to provide treatment for men who commit sexual offences.

Possible Outcomes

Reduction/ceasing of offending behaviour.

Process for Assessment and/or inclusion in scheme/intervention

Referral: where an individual is suited to attending the programme, this will be included as an option/recommendation in the social work court report. The service also works with men leaving custody on licence supervision.
 

Interventions suitable for

Men convicted of domestic abuse offences

The Caledonian System

Caledonian System: works with men convicted of domestic abuse offences to help them recognise their abuse, take responsibility and reduce their reoffending. Caledonian System also offers services for women and children affected by domestic abuse.

Reduction/ ceasing of offending behaviour.

Process for Assessment and/or inclusion in scheme/intervention

Referral: where an individual is suited to attending the programme, this will be included as an option/recommendation in the social work court report.
