Enhanced bail supervision
Details of all Specific national or local scheme/intervention(s) available
The scheme involves regular meetings with a bail supervisor to support the individual to comply with conditions of their bail. The meetings specifically support the individual in the community to comply with their bail conditions. Enhanced (more robust) bail supervision is also available to those who are most vulnerable (those under 21 and women), to help them comply with bail conditions in the community.
Support to comply with bail conditions in the community and minimise disruption to family life including caring commitments, employment/welfare benefits, housing and other factors: for example, additional support services working with an individual.
Public protection through an individual being supported to comply with bail conditions.
Process for Assessment and/or inclusion in scheme/intervention
A supervised bail assessment is offered to all under 21-year-olds appearing from custody. All women appearing from custody are offered an enhanced supervised bail assessment.
Bail supervision assessments will be conducted by court-based social work where a level of supervision is required to support an individual to comply with bail conditions. Where bail is opposed, the court/Procurator Fiscal should notify the relevant social work team so that an enhanced bail supervision assessment can be conducted.
Where no specific scheme/intervention is available, is there capacity to provide a bespoke service based on judicial request?
