Structured Deferred Sentences may be used post conviction but prior to sentencing. These can be offered creatively as an alternative to a Community Payback Order, or a custodial sentence. A non-Problem Solving Structured Deferred Sentence is likely, but not always, to be less intensive than the Problem Solving SDS but will still be a planned intervention aimed at reducing reoffending. This would be a reasonably high intensity intervention involving a social worker and support worker, aimed at further assessment of risk/needs/ responsivity, stabilisation, addressing basic needs, linking with wider support services, or to undertake specified pieces of work.

Possible outcomes

Reduced offending, improved access to services, increased stability.
